Every ClavaCo balaclava comes in one size. That sounds like a compromise, but it works because the fabric is a four-way stretch polyester-spandex blend that adapts to the shape of your head rather than forcing it into a fixed shape.
Who does it fit?
- Head circumference 54–62 cm (21–24.5 in) – comfortable for the vast majority of adults.
- Teenagers from about 14 years usually fit well; for younger children it will be loose around the face.
- Fits under a ski, snowboard, bike or motorcycle helmet – there is no seam on top of the head and the fabric is thin.
How to measure
Wrap a soft tape measure around your head just above the ears and eyebrows, where a hat would sit. Keep it snug but not tight. If you have no tape, use a piece of string and measure it against a ruler.
How should it feel?
Snug, with the printed face sitting on your nose and mouth without pulling. The eye opening should sit just above the cheekbones. When new, the fabric feels tight for the first wear or two and then relaxes slightly – that's normal and it will return to shape after each wash.
Printed design and fit
Because the design is printed on the fabric, a bigger head simply stretches the picture a little; it stays sharp and the features stay in place. Beards and moustaches in the Beard Gang and Smile Faces collections are positioned so they line up with your chin and mouth.
Three ways to wear it
- Full face – pulled down to the neck, only the eyes visible. Warmest, and the classic ski look.
- Open face – fold the mouth part down under the chin and wear it like a neck gaiter with a hood.
- Beanie – pull the face part up over your chin and nose and roll the bottom edge up.
